Software License Activation

Penzar Development uses a license activation system to help prevent piracy and protect your investment in our software. This enables us to continue developing our products at a competitive price. The license activation system does not collect any details about you or your computer. Activation is separate from the optional user registration.

The number of allowed new activations is specified in the software license. Reactivation on the same computer does not require another new activation but the user must provide the original installation ID to Penzar Development. The number of reactivations allowed is subject to quotas.

The software must be activated within one year from the delivery or invoice date. Penzar Development may terminate activation services for discontinued products and obsolete or outdated software versions without notice.

How It Works

Software license activation is a simple, straightforward process that is completely software based. It requires no hardware add-ons. Only the software serial number is needed to activate.

If you activate online, it is a quick and simple process that requires an Internet connection. When you activate in this way, the software itself will do most of the work. Very little user effort is required. If you would rather activate your software by e-mail, you can do this by selecting the offline activation option, and contacting Penzar Development customer support.

Activation is performed as the last step during the software installation process. If you choose not to activate at this time, you can activate later by running "Launch TopSpice". The software is not functional until activated.

Online Activation

Online activation using the Internet is the default option. The activation software requires outbound Internet access. To activate,

  1. When the "Activation Start" dialog opens, click on the "Activate Online" button. This opens the "Activation Ready" dialog.

  2. Click on the "Activate" button.

The activation software contacts the activation server, verifies the serial number and license status, and activates the software after receiving confirmation from the server. This process typically takes only a few seconds.

If the activation server cannot be contacted, it most likely means your system firewall function is blocking the outbound Internet access by the activation software. You must either temporarily disable the firewall outbound blocking or allow outbound access to the activation software program. The details for performing this is specific to the firewall software used in your system.

On rare occasions, it is possible the activation server could be busy or temporarily down. In this case, you should wait a few minutes and try again.

At any step during the activation process, you can click on the "Cancel" button to cancel the activation. You can activate later by running "Launch TopSpice".

Offline Activation

Offline activation is available for users who need to install on a computer that has restricted access to Internet, or prefer not to activate online. You can activate offline by e-mail. Offline activation services are only available during normal business hours.

Offline activation is only for registered users. This is necessary to verify you are an authorized user for the license. If you are not a registered user, you must provide the following end user information:

  • User's full name (must be an individual, not an organization or department)
  • Company name if applicable
  • Mailing address
  • Telephone number
  • E-mail address

The end user information is used to authorize the offline activation and register the user.

To activate,

  1. When the "Activation Start" dialog opens, select the "E-mail activation" option.

  2. This opens the "E-mail Activation" dialog.

  3. To activate by e-mail: click the "E-mail Activation Request" button. The activation software opens the system default e-mail client program with the activation request information.

Add the user's full name to the e-mail message body if necessary. If you are not a registered user, you need to add the end user details listed above to the e-mail message.

Send the message after adding all the necessary information. Most e-mail requests are processed within one business day (excludes weekends and US holidays).

  4. After you have received the offline activation authorization code by e-mail, enter the code in the appropriate boxes on the "E-mail Activation" dialog.

  5. Click the "Activate" button.

Re-Activation

If you reinstall the software on the same computer it was originally activated, you have the option to reactivate the software rather than a new activation. Only online reactivation is available and it requires an Internet connection. You must be a registered user to request reactivation.

Note: if you have the Installation ID from the original installation, you should contact Penzar Development by e-mail to request the Reactivation Code before starting the reinstallation.

To re-activate:

  1. When the "Activation Start" dialog opens, select the "Reactivation" option.

  2. This opens the "Re-Activation" dialog.

  3. If you already have the reactivation Code, enter it in the appropriate box.

  4. If you don't have the reactivation Code, request the Code by clicking the "E-mail Reactivation Code Request" button. The activation software opens the system default e-mail client program with the Reactivation Code request information.

Send the message after adding all the necessary information. Most e-mail requests are processed within one business day. If you don't want to keep the activaton window open while waiting for the code, you can close it by clicking the "Resume Later" button.

After you have received the Reactivation Code, enter the code in the appropriate box. If you closed the activation window while waiting for the code, you can resume the activation by opening the "Launch TopSpice" icon.

  5. Click on the "Activate" button.

The number of reactivations allowed is limited in a given time period.
